Tiger Woods. Michael Jordan. Lance Armstrong. Michael Phelps.
What do all these athletes have in common?
Natural talent? Sure.
The best at their respective sports? Indeed (though some may debate).
However, talent can only take you so far. There are plenty of talented athletes out there. What separates the elite from the rest of the pack is the dedication, commitment and sacrifice.
First to show up at practice, and the last to leave. One more free throw, one more mile, one more lap, one more bucket of balls. It’s living and breathing golf, basketball, cycling and swimming. It’s in their DNA. As Seth puts it, it’s being the best in the world.
Those who have this sort of attitude and drive don’t play for the money or the fame or the fun…they play to win. To be the best in the world.
Same holds true (or at least it should) for business.
It’s not being in business for the sake of being in business. It’s being committed, dedicated and willing to sacrifice. It’s one more phone call. One more sale. One more design idea. One more compliment to an employee.
It’s treating each customer, employee and vendor as the most important one that you have.
It’s living and breathing your business. It’s in your DNA. And when it is, it’s not work.
It’s being the best in the world.
