Who We Are

Dee Lawton Smith is founder (1999) and co-owner of the Lawton Gallagher Group. A former radio/television journalist, as well as newspaper publisher, she has extensive experience in developing marketing/communication strategies for nonprofits as well as for-profits.

Areas of expertise include interviewing, market research and analysis, fundraising, general marketing, E-marketing, advertising of all types, surveys and feasibility studies, focus groups, needs assessment and writing for all genres: ads, direct mail, video production, presentations, print news and features, and websites.

Prior to launching Lawton Gallagher, she was assistant director of marketing/communications at Interlochen Center for the Arts. She’s a graduate of the University of Iowa with majors in journalism, English and history.

Gregg Gallagher Smith, LGG co-owner, has a long entrepreneurial career in Northwest Michigan that includes newspaper ownership and publishing in five regional counties. Manufacturing and marketing/communications’ firm ownership are also part of that career mix. Clients have ranged from municipalities and county government, to health, environmental nonprofits, retail, professional service providers and manufacturers.

Areas of expertise and interest are national and local media relations, public affairs campaigns, interviewing and writing for every genre, and small business marketing/communications’ tactics and implementation.

He attended the U.S. Naval Academy and Xavier University.
